Exceptional late Victorian silver-plated, neo-classical revival with half gadrooned urnular pedestal samovar. Beautiful detailing including: handles with caprine masks, fan shaped ebony handle, bright cut engraving with swags outlined with wrigglework and a square base with 4 bun feet. Made by Cooper Brothers, Sheffield circa 1890.
Traditionally, samovars were used to carry hot water to the table for pouring into a teacup.
The lamp has been created using: coordinating chrome fittings, B22 lamp holder, a universal joint to maintain verticality of the shade, around 2 metres of silver retro-style twisted fabric cable and a white plug. The cable exits discreetly from the base of the body.
The lamp is shown here with one of our linen rectangular shades - it would look equally good with another design. Please note that the price is for the lamp only.
Dimensions: height 66cm x width 24cm
Condition: The antique is in excellent condition with superb bright shiny silver plate.
Utopia's Unexpected Lights
All Utopia's lights are unique and are handmade in our studios in North Norfolk from interesting antiques and finds. They each tell a narrative and enjoy close inspection to reveal strong craftsmanship and hidden layers of interest and wonder.
Creating our distinctive lights – the narrative behind the story Reclaimed elegance – the artefacts that Utopia sources for its lights are deliciously old, usually antique, sometimes vintage, and this ‘narrative’ is reflected in their character, patina and form – Utopia celebrates the knocks, chips, and scratches of their stories. The inspired selection of the original object and the process it goes through to make it covetable is what makes our products so special. Every lamp is a one-off.
Peace of Mind Enjoy the aesthetics of top quality heritage styling: traditional twisted fabric cable, aged metal fittings, retro-style chains and plugs, whilst having the peace of mind that your light is safe, having been completely wired/rewired by experts using modern fittings.
Due to the size of this lamp we are unable to deliver it by post. Please purchase the light and kindly let us know when you will be collecting it from our gallery in Holt, Norfolk - thank you.
