Raw 146 French Antique Iron & Brass Balance Scales (D. Juin & Fils, Bordeaux) Rustic Chandelier 1912
Raw 146 French Antique Iron & Brass Balance Scales Rustic Chandelier 1912
An exceptional find of a set of large French iron and brass balance 30kg scales made by D. Juin &Fils, Bordeaux in 1912. The scales are particularly interesting as the pans are a rough mix of brass and copper and have obviously been used to test assay stamps in the past. The little letters can be seen on closer inspection - see photo. The maker and date of manufacture are inscribed in the metal.
We have restored and transformed the antique into a spectacular rustic chandelier/pendant light with contemporary character. The scales are now in great condition and form a big lighting statement.
This striking light has been created using a substantial domed and hooked ceiling rose, 2 edison/screw aged-brass lamp (bulb) holders, antique chain and dark brown retro-style twisted cable. The brass pans have been inverted and polished, whilst the iron has been restored and waxed. The mechanism now works fine which enables the pans to be set either at the same or different heights, depending on your taste.
This light looks great with the modern retro-style giant globe LED filaments, as shown, that provide a great light at low cost, without any heat build up. Please note that the price does not include the LEDs.
Dimensions: Length 103cm. Brass pan diameter 36cm. Height 130cm - could be a little shorter by removing the chain.
The Raw Collection captures an elemental grandeur for interiors wherein the essence of beautiful materials is celebrated in the raw. The main inspiration for this stylish contemporary collection is the four natural elements: fire, air, earth and water. Through harnessing the juxtaposed energies of: metal, wood and stone a natural dynamic in design evolves.
Due to the significant weight and size of this light we are unable to ship it, so please collect it from the gallery in North Norfolk.
